Pia Dreiseitel Seminar

AIMS Seminar - 28th February 2020

With Computer Vision to Vision Zero - A World Without Traffic Accidents

Abstract: Continental as one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers has a clear vision for their products: a vision of zero traffic accidents.

From driver assistance like emergency breaking towards full autonomous driving, systems consist of sensorics, processing hardware and software and

activators. They build complex systems that have to be both extremely reliable and cost effective. In this seminar we will get to know modern driving assistance systems that have the clear goal to save lives and prevent accidents.  Safety regulation and testing methods, especially with respect to deep learning will also be addressed.

Pia Dreiseitel graduated from Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany, in Communications Engineering, where she also worked on a PhD in speech enhancement until 2001. She started her professional career with Smiths Detection, where she was responsible for computer vision of X-ray images of mm-wave scanners in aviation baggage scanning with the goal of automatically detecting dangerous goods (explosives, weapons, lithium batteries etc.). Since 2017 she is with Continental AG.
As team lead of the Perception Team within the AI department of Automotive Pre-Development, her main interest is on Deep Learning for Perception with special emphasis on Autonomous Driving or monitoring of the interior of a car.
