Pia Dreiseitel Seminar at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford
AIMS seminar - Friday 4th November
Vision Zero AI for Assistance Systems and Driverless Mobility with Zero Accidents
Pia Dreiseitel - Continental
Abstract: The Continental AG with 190 thousand employees world wide is one of the biggest automotive suppliers world-wide. Our goal is to reduce the number of traffic accidents with diver assistance systems and autonomous mobility.
The systems are not possible without AI based algorithms and a wide range of sensors (cameras, radar, lidar).
In the presentation, the systems will be introduced and the state-of-the art of currently available systems will be shown. A focus will be on making AI-based systems safe – which needs new approaches compared to the current methods.
Pia Dreiseitel graduated from Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany, in Communications Engineering, where she also worked on a PhD in speech enhancement until 2001. She started her professional career with Smiths Detection, where she was responsible for computer vision of X-ray images in aviation baggage scanning and of mm-wave person scanners with the goal of automatically detecting dangerous goods (explosives, weapons, lithium batteries etc.). Since 2017 she is with Continental AG.
As team lead of the Perception Team within the central AI department within Automotive, her main interest was on Deep Learning for Perception with special emphasis on Autonomous Driving or in-cabin monitoring. Now she is responsible for the so-called growthfield AI Technologies.
